Barn Wedding at Pine View Acres, Massillon Ohio | Columbus Wedding Photography
After 8 and a half years, high school sweethearts Zak and Elizabeth said "I do" under a large oak tree at Pine View Acres in Massillon OH. This wedding was what wedding photographers dream about!! The venue had rolling vistas and plenty of shade, a reception space with natural light, and a view of the stunning sunset. And the bride and groom had so much love for one another, they truly made our job a breeze.
Elizabeth & Zak were surrounded by friends and family who truly loved them, support their marriage and were SO very helpful, even when I asked her sister (who had a baby 2 weeks ago!) to help facilitate a surprise first look! Yes, you read that right. One of them planned a first look and the other was surprised. We won't keep you in suspense too long... Zak was surprised! A few months prior to their wedding, Elizabeth asked if we could facilitate a first look without Zak knowing, and we love a good surprise, so we said YES! Here's how it worked. Tim took Zak down a tree covered lane to capture some grooms portraits, and in that time, Kristin escorted Elizabeth down the lane behind him. Her sisters came along to lay out her train and make sure she looked perfect and when she was ready, Tim told Zak to turn around, revealing his beautiful bride to him! He definitely was surprised and very happy to see her. It was a sweet moment to be a part of for sure.
We had made sure there was space in the timeline for couples portraits before the ceremony, which is exactly why we LOVE first looks. We were able to get a full session done with them before they even walked down the aisle, and then we also captured the "just married" photos for them too! What is so great about that is, they now have photos with her veil and train, as well as without, and her dress being bustled. We also had Zak get a little more casual by removing his jacket as well. It makes for a great variety and tells more of the story of the day.
When it was time for the ceremony, their friends and family gathered on the terrace under the beautiful sun. Elizabeth was escorted down the aisle by her father and she looked absolutely stunning. Their officiant began their ceremony by telling their loved ones the things they loved most about one another, and they shared traditional vows and exchanged rings. They then united together by having a wine ceremony where each of them poured one red, and one white wine into a glass and they both sipped the combined wine together. Before they shared their first kiss as husband and wife, they invited their mothers to come up and share a "last" kiss with them. It was a surprise to both moms and I think they loved it!
Afterwards, we moved into the chapel to take a few family photos with the newlyweds, their parents, siblings, and grandparents (in the air conditioning!). Then we photographed the full bridal party, the bridesmaids, groomsmen, and those just married portraits we mentioned before while the guests and bridal party enjoyed cocktail hour.
Just before dinner was served, Mr & Mrs. Stefancin made a grand entrance into the barn, and all of their nearest and dearest welcomed them with cheers and clapping! Not only was the BBQ dinner delish, but they did not overlook one detail when it came to food and snacks! They had a popcorn bar with flavors like dill pickles, buffalo ranch, peanut butter cup, and parmesan garlic, and they had a variety of little donuts! The cake they cut was Nothing Bundt Cakes, and it was perfect to go along with the mini donuts. We love when couples incorporate their favorite items and personal details!!
The dance floor was opened after they shared their first dance with each other, and each having a dance, Elizabeth with her father, and Zak with his mother. Once their guests started to party, there was no stopping them- it was great! Even Zak's 90 year old grandparents made it on to the dance floor- they have been married 71 years, and they are a beautiful example of commitment. We were able to have a conversation with them and agree we hope we make it as far as they have.
We ended the night with them after a sparkler exit, where they ran through once, and all the sparklers were still burning. They had already made it back to the dancefloor as their guests chanted from outside "One more time!", so they ran through again, and this time Zak dipped Elizabeth!
It was so much fun, and such a pleasure to be a part of your perfect wedding day. Congratulations Mr & Mrs. Stefancin! We hope you have so many years of happy, strong, committed marriage.
