Summer and Fall are really popular times for engagement sessions, as many couples planning a Columbus Ohio wedding for the next spring would like their photos done in enough time to order save the dates or use their photos for their wedding websites, invites etc. Not to mention the best weather here in Ohio is between June and October.

So now that the weather has gotten warm and my calendar is FULL of engagement sessions, I thought I would take a few minutes to share with you my top tips for making the most of your engagement session.

#1 Choose an awesome location.

I typically recommend my clients choose a session location that is unlike their wedding venue. For instance if you are getting married on a golf course and most of your wedding photos will be green and floral, I would maybe suggest something more urban like the Short North or downtown-- of course we want it to fit your personalities too so that plays a big part. I also encourage clients to weave in some detail that represents their relationship. Maybe on your first date you went to a certain park, went to Jeni's for ice cream, or went to the Columbus Zoo-- incorporating these items into your photos will really set them apart.

#2 Personalize, Personalize, Personalize

This kind of goes hand in hand with #1, but this tip is more about you as the couple. If you don't typically wear suits and ties, guys-- DON'T wear them for your session [especially since you will likely wear a tux on your wedding day]. Girls if you never wear high heels, don't do it just for your session, I want you to be comfortable and relaxed on camera and that is hard enough without adding an element of unfamiliarity to it. Wear what compliments you and your partner, but be YOU!

#3 Get your ring cleaned

If you want that blingin' detailed ring picture [that I personally drool over] help me out! I can only do so much with flowers and sunshine if your ring is dirty. Visit your jeweler a day or two before your session, they will clean it for free. Then avoid using lotion or hand sanitizer while wearing your ring until after your session.
